Today in data, from corporate earnings to consumer spending, the effects of rising inflation are still being felt.

$100 million: Amount by which Big Lots missed its sales plan for the quarter, as it blamed slowing sales on inflation.

$95: Average spending per grocery purchase in April, vs. $110 in March as inflation-wary shoppers shift their spending habits in search of lower prices.

43%: Increase in payment declines due to insufficient funds between March — when nearly half of all consumers earning more than $100,000 were living paycheck-to-paycheck — and April.

22%: Number of consumers who said cost was the most important reason for not adding a subscription service in March, up from 2% the previous month.
